The number of “Pilates” training programmes are increasing exponentially around the world. Learning how to discern the differences between providers can be challenging and providers are eager to book you on a training. When looking to buy Comprehensive Pilates training to work in a studio or set up your own studio, we recommend the following
- Prior Experience:
Ensure you have skills in the Pilates method before buying into any training. This should be obtained through the provider you intend to use or a studio recommended by the provider. Between 25 and 75 1-1 lessons should be expected before entering a training. If the provider accepts no prior knowledge, expect your post course hours to be considerably longer than indicated.
2) Access to Apparatus:
Pilates is a system of exercises on mat and apparatus therefore having access to all the apparatus taught during the training course is essential
3)Planning for Post course hours:
Where will you obtain your supervision, observation of teachers and lessons – 450 hours minimum and 600 hours plus is not uncommon. This should be with the training provider in their premises however, in some cases, the provider may permit you to take lessons at another studio. Travel to your provider and time away from home should be budgeted in advance.
4) Alternative studios for supervision:
While a training provider may suggest that you can train at studio local to your home, this would require significant collaboration between the training provider and the “supervising” studio. If there is likely to be a conflict of interest, obtaining such support may be difficult and any such services should be agreed before you commit to the purchase of a training programme.
5) In-person and online supervision:
The pandemic has taught us that there is a benefit to be obtained from online services. specifically theory, however this cannot replace the skills of hands-on teaching and interpersonal skills. Pilates is a practical skill and in person is essential for at least 50- 75% of the post-course training hours in order to be an effective teacher after assessment.
6) Location and business registration:
Any business selling services requires to follow UK guidelines on fair trading and advertising. In the unlikely event of having a complaint or looking for a refund, knowing who you are trading with is essential. All UK Limited companies should show company registration number and their registered office somewhere within their website.
