Pilates Teacher Association Inaugural Conference

Return to Life on the Isle of Man – Guiding the Future Protecting the Past

The Pilates Conference 14th – 17th July 2016

The Pilates Teacher Association pleased to be working in with Visit IOM www.visitiom.co.uk and The Knockaloe and Patrick Visitor Centre to bring you the inaugural Conference of www.pilatesteacherassociation.org.

The PTA are proud to be hosting this event with www.knockaloe.im

This historic event on the Island where Joseph Pilates spent almost 5 years of his life will bring the very best of Pilates to the Isle of Man with world class presenters.

The venue for the conference is the historic King William’s College in Castletown, close to The airport.   Accommodation can be found either in the college at excellent rates and ideal if you are travelling with a group of friends or in the hotels and Bed and Breakfasts of Castletown and Douglas.  A daily return Coach service is included from Douglas in all full tickets.  We have planned this conference to be honest quality and value for money.

We think we have thought of everything to make this a conference to truly remember.

Our conference is the opportunity to explore and discuss the source and the lineages. We are bringing world class teachers with clear evidential links to the first generation teachers to the Isle of Man.

  • Ray Kurshals
  • Sean P Gallagher
  • Kathi Ross- Nash
  • Junghee Won

  • Alison Salmond

Conference  Highlights

The Isle of Man has all the right ingredients to combine a conference and a vacation so why not stay on for a few days and enjoy the island.

PRE-CONFERENCE 14TH JULY 2016 12.00 noon – 9.30p.m.

Our day commences with a networking buffet lunch in the beautiful Barrovial Hall.

We then move to the Kings Theatre where we will hear from Sean P Gallagher on the History of exercise and the influence of 19th century Physical Culture Movement on his work.  The Knockaloe team will tell us more about the life in the camps and explore the myth of the hospital beds and springs!

We then depart by coach to the site of Knocakaloe in the village of Patrick, have a guided walk and talk on camp 4 where Joe lived with many other men. The Knockaloe team were told by the Granddaughter of an internee that her Grandfather did his exercises which he learned in the camp every day.  In honour of all those who gave their lives during the war physically and mentally, and for the development of the Contrology aka Pilates method we will take a mat class.  At 5.30 p.m.  Kathi Ross- Nash will lead all of us in the first group mat class on the site of Camp 4.

The coach will then return us to King William’s College for a buffet supper.
